Best Movies for Kids to Watch on Your Summer Road Trip

“Are we there yet?!” If you’re sick of hearing this everyone you’re on a 5-hour drive to grandma’s house, then why not distract them with an entertaining movie? When you were a kid, there was no 4G or LTE to use, so you can allow your kids to experience the benefits of modern technology by lending them your iPad or another wireless device.

Here are our top picks for the best kid's movies to watch while kids cruise in their toddler car seat covers.

Elmo in Grouchland (1999)

Despite being over 2 decades old, Sesame Street never fails to charm new generations as the years have progressed. In this exciting adventure, Elmo finds himself being transported into the world of grouchy, trash-loving Muppets (just like Oscar!) after getting sucked into a washer at the laundromat he was using to clean out some orange juice he accidentally spilled on his blanket. Kids will fall in love with the delectable late-90s feat music and of course, Elmo himself!

The Peanuts Movie (2015)

This animated movie by Blue Sky Studios is computer-animated, but honestly really fits the tone of Charlie Brown and the gang very well! Allow your child to fall in love with the world with Snoopy, Woodstock, and all the other children as Charlie Brown attempts to face his fear and befriend the cute Little Red-Haired Girl at his school.

Winnie the Pooh (2011)

We really liked this movie because of the updated animation of the classic cartoons Disney first released in the 1970s. You just can’t go wrong with its heart-to-heart message of love and acceptance to children of all ages (and grown-ups, too!)

My Neighbor Totoro (Tonari no Totoro/となりのトトロ) (1988)

This classic Studio Ghilbli film tells the story of two sisters who have recently moved to the countryside as they await their mother to heal from her illness. Upon stumbling into the forest near the house, they meet all sorts of fascinating creatures like they have never seen before? What kind, precisely? These kids will just have to find out for themselves! The film has had several English dubs as well as in other languages around the world, as well!

Finding Nemo (2003)

Finding Nemo is one of Pixar’s most beloved movies of all time. Do you remember in the mid-2000s when every child in the country wanted a clownfish? This film has sparked interest in many kids’ love for marine life and is really just a fun watch for people of all ages!

Veggie Tales

Veggie Tales has produced multiple movies since the 1990s. You may have even watched them yourself when you were younger. It makes learning about Biblical stories a really fun time for the kids and maybe will get them a little more excited about eating a new vegetable two.

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs (2009)

Wish it was raining food sometimes? We’d be lying if we said we didn’t, so your family can go ahead and live the dream with this adaptation of the beloved 1978 children's book. After years of failed attempts, scientist Flint Lockwood finally invents something that actually works, a machine that can make delicious food fall from the sky! But as you can guess, it turns out that things start to go wrong, and it’s now up to Flint and his new friend Sam to bring things back to harmony!
